I was really excited when I was told about a project to take art to the people of Harare and to convert public spaces into works of art. We had long discussed this concept and finally it was happening.
The brainchild of Louise Bragge from an organisation she founded called Urban Space. The Ubuntu series which took over a section Speke Avenue just before Century Footbridge was funded by Hivos.
The project involved a group of artists which included Masimba Hwati, one of the Zimbabwe representatives at the Venice Biennale, Jimmy Saruchera of Koovha Creative Hub and Gallery and Martin Stewart amongst others.
I hope this is the start of beautifying our cities and bring art to the people. Hoping to raise awareness about art and raise the appreciation of art by the people.
