Strive towards Unity

Brethren from our reading today, there are those who cause divisions in the church. These people would want to see you deviating from the way of Christ. One thing for sure these are people who are so close to you and include; spouses, children, parents and friends. Satan does not use a stranger to make you go astray, he uses your immediate associates.

But today the word is saying WATCH OUT! do not let go your obedience that you have gained after a long time of work and faithfulness. I like it when the word says, ‘by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.’ We are all hungry and thirst for spiritual food, but maybe because of little knowledge we are confused by those philosophies of man.

With joy I say with bro Paul at verse 20, The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. Brethren lets take up the sword of the spirit which is the word of God and get ready to fight those who belong to Satan.

Ephesians 4. ‘Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you that you walk worth of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, fore bearing one another in love, 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

From this passage of scripture we are given Christian principles. A true Christian will understand his or her calling in which everyone of us has been called to demonstrate that there can be peace in one’s life. After one attained that peace he preaches the peace to another so that at the end we may have peaceful families and peaceful nations. We were called to humility and gentleness, what place does pride have in hearts my brothers? That is why James says humble yourself and the Lord will lift you up.

Called to a family

But Paul is saying that humility and gentleness work together with patience, fore bearing one another in love. Paul is showing us that we have been called to a family not to individualism. There is a need to accept that we are all prone to making mistakes before we over judge other people’s mistakes, we also learn to love impartially and care for all brethren. Let us pray for unity of the Spirit to unify us as the church of Christ. We need that bond of peace in the church, in the family and in individuals.

Let us seek to be one with other disciples. Let us focus on things that bring us together in unity, not on things that divide us. May God help us and bless us as we gather to worship Him today.

Brothers take note of this verse; being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The word eager is so touchy, it means being enthusiastic and excited about something and impatiently waiting to do or get it. We should always strive to preach unity, peace and love in the congregation, our homes, and our communities. Let it be our joy to preach unity and peace.
