What have you sacrificed to follow Jesus?

Greetings brethren. our word today comes from Luke 5v27-32.  ”After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name Levi sitting at the tax booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus said to him, and Levi got up,  left everything and followed him. Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.”

There are two important points to consider here, –

First Point – Levi left everything and followed Jesus.

When God called us there were things which we were doing. We were involved in acts not worth the name that we now bear yet the Lord called us. Question is, did we leave everything and followed the Lord without questioning Him?

If we still have baggage or if we brought along some undesirable characteristics, habits etc. Today is the day to off load and leave all and follow Jesus as we are without any extra baggage. Some are still held captive by superstitions, adulterers, envious, selfish, thieves, Today the word is saying leave all these things behind, and follow Jesus.

Second point – The Great banquet

Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. Yet look what this man did. He realised that it was important for him to invite his fellow workmates and associates, that is, other thieves who were his friends be saved. When we were converted what did we do? What did we do for our workmates?

Up to today we are ashamed to confess our faith at our workplaces. While its is still today brothers let your workmates know who you have believed in. Who has called you from darkness into the light? Call out to those you used to drink with and tell them that you are now in the light. Through a banquet expressing your joy to being saved and invite them all.

So the word today is asking did you leave everything when you were called by God? Did you in turn call your friends and relatives? That is true discipleship. May God bless you as you give him praise today
